Text to Favicon: Generate Icons from Letters

June 27, 2026 · 3 min read

Not every project has a logo. When you are building an MVP, a side project, or an internal tool, you need a favicon but do not have a designer. Text-to-favicon generators solve this—type your initials, pick a color, and get a professional-looking icon in seconds.

When Text Favicons Work Best

Single-letter or two-letter favicons work surprisingly well. Think of Google Docs (blue document), Gmail (red envelope), or any app that uses a distinctive initial. A bold letter on a colored background is instantly recognizable at 16x16 pixels.

How to Make One

Use genfavicon.org and switch to Text mode. Type 1-3 characters, choose a font from four options (Sans, Serif, Mono, Script), pick text and background colors, and click Update Preview. Download all six sizes as a ZIP. Everything runs in your browser—no upload.
